VpCI®-368 is a fast drying, solvent-based temporary wax-like coating that provides protection in harsh, outdoor, unsheltered applications yet is easily removed with alkaline cleaners. Provides multi-metal protection. Can be matched to some custom colours.
Commercial equivalent to MIL– PRF–16173E (Grades 1 & 2); NATO 6850-66-132-5848, 6099; NSN 8030-00-062-6950, 231- 2345, 244-1300, 470-2601.

VpCI 368 - Description
VpCI-368 is a time-proven coating that provides excellent protection to metal substrates exposed to harsh outdoor conditions.
It has an extensive record of use for mothballing and layup of equipment, protection of shipments, and preservation of spares.
The viscous liquid dries into a firm moisture-displacing wax-like film that can be removed by mineral spirits or alkaline cleaners.

The film can be used for a variety of applications where heavy-duty corrosion protection is needed:
• Pipe coating
• Parts storage
• Underbody coating
• Wire rope
• Steel plate
• Machined parts

Features
• Flexible • Excellent salt spray protection • Excellent outdoor protection • Multimetal protection • Excellent UV resistance • Moisture displacing • Cured film is heat stable up to 392°F (200°C) • Conforms to MIL-PRF-16173E (Grades 1 and 2)
• NATO 6850-66-132-5848 • NATO 6850-66-132-6099 • NSN 8030-00-062-6950 • NSN 8030-00-231-2345 • NSN 8030-00-244-1300 • NSN 8030-01-470-2601
Packaging & Storage
VpCI-368 is available in 5 gallon (19 litre) steel pails, 55 gallon (208 litre) metal drums, totes, and bulk.
Available as CorShield® VpCI-368 in 11 oz. (312 g) aerosol cans.
Protection Properties

Typical Equipment Setups
HVLP / Conventional Spray
• Tip 0.02”-0.11” (0.5-2.8 mm)* dependent upon pressures and viscosity
Air Pressure 45-55 psi
Fluid Pressure 10 psi
Fluid hose should be 3⁄8” (0.95 cm) I.D. with a maximum length of 50 feet (15.2 m). 1⁄4” (0.64 cm) I.D. fluid hose can be used but pressures may need to be adjusted. Pot should always have dual regulation and be kept at same elevation as spray gun.
Air Assisted Airless / Airless
Tip 0.015”-0.035” (0.38-0.89 mm)* dependent upon pres- sures and viscosity
Pressure 1800-2500 psi
Hose should be 3⁄8” (0.95 cm) I.D. minimum, but a 1⁄4” (0.64 cm) I.D. whip end section may be used for ease of applica- tion. A maximum length of 100 feet (30.5 m) is suggested.
Cleanup
Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with butyl acetate when coating is still wet. When dry, use butyl cellu-solve or MEK. Follow mfg’s safety recommendations when using any solvent.
*All tests performed after a 7 day cure at ambient temperature
VpCI®-368 EVP (Extra Vapour Protection)
Now, VpCI®-368 EVP (Extra Vapour Protection) is also available for application in complex, sealed spaces where a greater concentration of vapour inhibitor is beneficial. The extra dose of Cortec® VpCI® vapourises from the coating, fills the enclosed space, and absorbs on difficult-to-reach surfaces. This is helpful on applications such as pipe internals where it is challenging to thoroughly cover all metal substrates.
VpCI®-368 EVP coating is flexible and offers excellent outdoor protection that is much easier to handle and remove than traditional wax-based coatings commonly used in military and similar applications.
VpCI®-368 EVP is UV resistant and passes 900-1500 hours of ASTM B-117 intense salt spray testing applied at 2-3 mils on carbon steel. It also provides multi-metal protection on stainless steel, copper, aluminium, and cast iron. The cured film is heat stable up to 392°F (200°C) and is commercially equivalent to MIL-PRF-16173E.
